A Lazy Day
Apr 23rd, 2006 by MadV
During the last week I was very much tensed. My PM had told me that she’ll grant me leave only if I complete the work on time. And so I worked on the previous saturday to make sure that code will be in good shape before the deadline. I guess I did do that. Hence I was happy that I’ll get my leave approved. But to my shock the PL told me on the next working day that he wants me to be there for testing as well so that the bugs popping up during testing can be fixed then and there. For that the test cases and test suites also need to be complete. And the testing is usually not done by the developer. But it should be prepared by some one else during the design phase itself. And that work was just started by that someone when I was almost done with my code. I was really wondering whether i can go home on leave or not. I tried helping the tester so that everything will be done on time and as I was almost done with my stuff and for rest was waiting for clarifications from onsite. And we both tried and fixed a few bugs before the actual testing started :-).
To our surprise PL came to our desk on Wednesday and told us that the interface on which we were working will go on hold untill the clarifications are obtained from onsite. I was kind of happy that I’ll then get my leave approved for sure that I am done with my part. But for our shock he said that he’ll assign another interface for us and will have to complete it before Friday. I was quite down then. I was damn sure that I wont be able to complete it by Friday for sure and the chances of me going home blues. I tired my best to convince PL that I wanted to go home urgently. Finally the war came to an end. No more work were dumped on me :-). I wouldnt have been successful in this war for basic rights, unless Veeran had not boosted my confidence. Hail Veeran!
The toughest task was then. I had to convice my PM that I’m free now and I want my leave to be approved. I intentionally did not talk to her on fear that if she finds that I’m sitting idle then may dump with some more work and fasten me onto that hell for more time.
To my luck I could talk to her on the next day and all PLs supported me. And she had to approve my leave then. But on a(many) condition(s) :-(. I will have to bring bags of sweets once I am back. Also I have to give the entire project team a treat and also that I will have to work on many saturday as a compensation. Huh.. I agreed for all those because I had no other go :-(.
For the next two working days of the week, I reached office damn late and left early in the evening as well. The work that I was doing there was simply helping others. Hehe.. Nothing serious. I found it really exciting to confuse people at work :-D.
And now I am at home. You must be wondering why I wanted leave so urgently.. Hmmm… It’s for the coming up BIG event only :-).
