Man on Moon

Last Thursday happened to see KBC3 hosted by Shahrukh Khan. It was a Holi special episode and Rani Mukherjee and Priety Zinta were the guest contestants. Their acting performances on the mini screen can be regarded as better than on the silver screen. The way they used life lines and their expressions while wild guesses turning out correct proves their acting skills.
Well coming to the question which made me think,
Eugene Cernan is known to be the last man to do ___
And the options were
Last man to climb Mt.Everest Last man to be on moon
I’m sorry but I dont remember the remaining options.
Till Shahrukh announced the answer I was of the opinion that it cant anyway be “Last man on moon“. My astro GK is too less that I never knew that man has landed on moon more than once. A select query to my db told me that Neil Armstrong and his crew, [Appolo 11 program] were the only one who were on moon since today.
I was wrong and there were in total six successful Appolo missions to moon by NASA. And Eugene Cernan is the last one who stepped on moon (Appolo 17). Eugene’s moon landing trip talks a lot about his experiences.
Every science student knows that the year 1969 shows a giant leap for mankind by man landing on moon for the first time. And the researches told me that it was in 1972 that man landed moon for the last time. This fact made me think more. Within this nearly 4 years humans (NASA through Appolo programs) made so many trips to moon. And after that why such a big break?
Why no other nation who is astro powered showed interest in a Lunar mission? Did they find nothing interesting on moon? Or they found our neighbour planet Mars more attractive than this small satellite?
The discussion about faking of moon landing tends to answer the above questions. If man had landed on moon why they are not doing it now? Did NASA really fool mankind? Why should they keep quiet about this as hoax if it happened for real? And why cant they put an end to the debate by showing that they still can have a lunar astronaut?
I’ll get answer to these questions when another Lunar mission becomes successful. And I guess I’ve to wait more for such an event.
