See how Pepsi is striking back with less bang

With the clean sweep of “Ooh Aah India” world cup special ad, pepsi now strikes back again. This time not with any celebrity but a too down to earth ad.
Before the ICC Champions trophy series Pepsi had test launched their new ad “Ooh Aah India Aaya India”. But by the pathetic performance of Indian cricket team during the series they withdrew the ad and kept it in the vault, to be launched for world cup promo.
Expecting a grand performance by Indian team in the world cup the pepsi cola marketing team took the risk of launching a world cup special drink namely Pepsi Gold. [Off topic, I heard it doesnt taste good].
To promote Pepsi Gold they took out their “Ooh Aah India Aaya India Ad” out of the strong room. But the marketers or makers of this pepsi commercial seems to have their “Shani dasa“. As Indian cricketers had to come back home fast after their trip to West Indies, the ad also got back to the safe vault once again.
Now the Pepsi marketing guys had to come up with something so that their limited edition Pepsi Gold doesnt remain entirely in their factories. And hence a new ad was born which is very down to earth one I must say.
The new Pepsi commercial casts cricket loving boys from a gali who hopes to take home the next world cup. Also, a tailor who agrees to stitch Indian cricket uniforms for them. The ad though very simple in making, is trying to say that Pepsi Gold will remain in market at least till next world cup.
Let’s wait and watch Pepsi sales figures to analyse the fate of this ad :-). Before the cricket world cup in 2003 Pepsi had launched Pepsi blue, which dint perform well in the market.
Footnote: Got to know from media that many a companies are suffering a huge loss for sponsoring Indian team for the world cup. Pepsi is just one among them. I wonder how coke wisely kept themselves out of the world cup spree.
