Secrets behind branded goods revealed

Yesterday happened to be a hectic day since we had some guests at home. For me entertaining guests is a tougher job than anything else. Apart from special dishes to be served, you need to prepare yourself with topics which is of thier interest so that the communication goes on.
And one of the esteemed soul who visited our home owns a business. She has a boutique and has around 20 employees associated with it. I thought that it would be a nice topic to start the conversation.
Before delving into the details of her business she did dig her past. She is a mallu by birth and brought up in North Kerala. She had a diverse fate of moving from Kerala to Mumbai after marriage.
Even before she had shown interest in stitching. And it was after marriage that she got some exposure and confidence for being a business owner.
Started 7 years back now she’s quite well established in Mumbai. And now comes the interesting part.
She was telling that now she has got order from Raymond, The Complete Man for completing woman as well :-P. They are starting [or started, I'm not sure] a women wear wing which includes designer clothes as well.
This contract is pretty profitable since you’ve to make only a few pieces and has less head ache. To my astonishment she said, she is getting almost 150-200 per designer shirt/top. I was kind of shocked when I heard that.
Will you ever get a designer top for less than 600? Just by putting the brand name the cost has multiplied several times. And what does the people who put in all effort get? May be daily wages or a fixed salary which would be equivalent to the price of a shirt shown by the price tag.
And this is where the big companies make huge profit. They get paid back multiples of cash which they invest initially.
Designer shirts and tops are worn by many people these days. They just go for the brand name. The truth is that they are not made in the company’s factory or something but they outsource their work. They get it done by paying very less amount to the small scale industries.
Next time when you buy a branded commodity, just think twice - Are you paying enough to the right person?
NB: Rich will always remain rich whereas poor poorer because of the bad habits of middle class men.
